Sikh Center of Virginia was incorporated in Virginia in December 2008 by its original Trustees (listed alphabetically by last name): Ranjit Singh Aulakh, Devinder Singh Badesha, Kamaljit Singh Bajwa, Puranjit Singh Bhinder, Balwinder Singh Dhillon, Surrindar Singh Hansra, Jatinder Singh Mann, Sukhwinder Singh Pannu, and Gursharan Singh Sidhu. The Trustees acquired an older building on 1.5 acres of land in Manassas. The inaugural management committee included Gursharan Singh Sidhu (President), Puranjit Singh Bhinder (Secretary), Kamaljit Singh Bajwa (Treasurer), Gagan Kaur Bajwa (Langar in-charge), Parminder Kaur Malhi (Member-at-large), Baldev Singh Ghuman (Education in-charge), and Seth Harjinder Singh Bhogal (Public Relations Officer). The first Diwan was held on February 27, 2009, with Bhai Bhupinder Singh Paras serving as the first Granthi/Ragi. From its early days, SCV established ongoing traditions and community service, including an annual Vaisakhi Mela, blood donation drives twice a year, serving chilled water annually at the Dale City Independence Day parade, running a Sunday school, contributing to flood relief efforts in Punjab among others. SCV hosts educational seminars on various topics of interest to the sangat. In 2012, the center purchased ten adjacent acres to support its growing needs. A Special Use Permit was obtained to allow a larger building to be built on this lot. With Vaheguru’s blessings, ambitious plans for the same are underway.
